Celebrating Cgeek's 3,000!

Cgeek found her 3,000th cache on May 29, 2008! That's a fantastic achievement, especially when you consider that she found her first cache on April 4, 2006. 3000 caches found in two years is awesome! This milestone deserves special recognition and that is exactly what we are going to give!

Join us on Saturday, August 16th, to celebrate Cgeek finding 3K caches. We will meet at Johnson Road Park in Germantown, TN, in the large picnic pavilion. Everyone should arrive at 11am when the temperatures will still be relatively "cool" outside (after all, it is summer in the south!). Bring your own lunch or late-morning snack. GOWT will provide bottles of cool water for anyone who wants to quench his/her thirst. After some "meet and greet" time together, we will give out awards for those cachers who have reached 100 and 500 cache milestones in the past six months. Then we will have a special presentation for Cgeek.

Everyone will be asked to write their favorite, happiest thought about Cgeek when they sign the log book. For example: "Whenever I see a 35mm film container I think of Cgeek - fondly usually." Or how about: "Thanks to Cgeek it took me 15 hours to drive from Memphis to Knoxville as I hunted all of those LTL caches at every exit on I-40!" Use your imagination. We'll present the signed log book to Cgeek at the end of this event as a wonderful remembrance of this great time together!

There will be excellent door prizes and a good time will be had by all. We'll see you on August 16th!

Look for the pavilion with the GOWT banner on it!

The Geocachers of West Tennessee invite all geocachers to join us in commemorating the 1000th find of Searchingforit. His 1K find was Abandon Hope (GC11A7E). He, along with gonafindit, completed this lengthy cache on March 22nd, 2008.

The time of the celebration will be 2:30 p.m. and will be held at:

Interstate Barbeque
150 W. Stateline Road,
Southaven, Mississippi 38671

We look forward to all area geocachers, as well as others that may be traveling through the Memphis area to join us for a "dutch treat" luncheon and share your geocaching stories, trade and discover TBs, and enjoy the community of geocachers. Also, there will be a Golden Ammo can that guests may fill with gifts (geoswag) for the honoree.
2nd Annual Celebrate Summer in the MidSouth Event

Mark your calendar for Saturday, July 26th! That's when GOWT will be co-sponsoring the second annual Celebrate Summer Event at Sardis Lake in Mississippi.

The action will begin at 10am at the picnic area near the lower lake below Sardis Lake Dam. Everyone will meet under the covered pavilion located near the playground, restrooms, and swim beach. There will be several games and contests during the event. Lunch will be "potluck" so everyone will want to bring something to share. Here is an unofficial list of the day's schedule:

9 am - Registration (no charge) for the event begins. Everyone will be given a list of nearby caches along with other information.

10 am til noon - Caching in the park and visiting with fellow cachers in the picnic pavilion.

Noon til 1 pm - Lunch. Bring something to grill, a side dish to share, something cool to drink (no alcohol is allowed in the park).

1:30 pm - Introduction of recent milestone cachers.

2:30 pm to 5:30 pm - Games, contests, special "event" caches, and door prizes.

6 pm - Cleanup.

Check the caching page listing - GC18AF6 - for additional details and the exact coordinates. Everyone plan on having a great time!

This event (GC19JW1) will last an entire 15 minutes. The flash will occur at 12:00pm on May 10th in front of the Dough boy statue in Overton Park. This event will be recorded on video for publishing on the internet for everyone to enjoy.

The timing for this event will be based off of atomic time with the central time zone being applied. I am working on a link for a time sync for this page.

We will take a picture at 12:15pm and everyone in the photo will get credit for the event.

There will be a log to sign and I will edit this page at a later date for the visual signal to start the event.

We can visit and chat about GOWT and Caching in the park after the event has concluded.
