Cache: The Deck (GCW8HM)
Region: Southwest
Report submitted by prontopup on 2007-12-16
Information: There are a total of 4 caches in the Lichterman Nature Center: The Lake; The Deck; The Forest; and Lake Pavilion. The first 3 are relatively easy. The 4th one is a bit more challenging to find. None of these require you to go more than 40 feet (and maybe not that much) off a trail.

As the cache pages indicate, the starting point for all of these is the Visitor Center Building though which everyone must enter. At the front desk, the staff member present will provide you with a sheet of paper giving the exact coords of each of the 4 caches.

From the Visitor Center Building walk south (away from the lake) on a paved sidewalk toward another building which houses a variety of exhibits about flora and fauna. Walk all the way through this building and exit it. You will be at the beginning of a wooden deck which heads basically west (and then turns a little more northwest). Walk down this deck until your reach the point where you clearly see the deck “shift” direction. Right after that point is where you should start looking for this cache. The container is a pill fob hidden in a standard way. Your GPSr may start giving you goofy readings at this point so you are simply going to have to look around on both sides of the deck. This cache is easily reachable from the deck but cannot be reached from below the deck. You want to avoid going below the deck anyway because of the abundance of poison ivy there.
