| Information: This cache recently became my favorite cache, as I had the privilege of traveling across the lake with several geocachers, and our professional guides.
Shortly after this cache was posted, I received an E-mail from a fairly new cacher, who indicated that a group of cachers were looking to try and get the new 5/5 at Reelfoot, but they needed someone that had a boat. I offered to call my friend, Gary, who happens to provide a professional guide service at Reelfoot. Thus, I was on the way to getting my first ever 5/5 cache.
The cache itself is located in a duck blind on beautiful Reelfoot Lake, in the very Northwestern corner of our state. The owner of the cache is also the owner of the duck blind, Influence Waterfowl Calls, who lives in Western Kentucky. I do need to correct the posting on the cache page though... the earthquakes that formed Reelfoot actually rang bells in Philadelphia, PA, according to published reports in the newspapers of the day.
Now the rest of the story... We, netinator, Fargnot, flyingisis, myself, Gary & Jack, Gary's dachshund, (fishfinder), left the boat dock at Gary's Guide Service (www.ggsreelfoot.com)in Samburg, TN at about 2:00 PM. Taking the "freeway" across the lake, being directed by our trusty GPSrs, Gary carefully avoided the stumps and made the trip to the "Upper Blue Basin". Along the way, we saw awesome sights such as the bald eagles in flight, the blue herons, the ducks, the cypress trees towering above the smaller vegetation, the beautiful lake scenery, as well as a beautiful blue sky, on a cool (but not cold) winter day.
Upon arrival at the cache site, we figured out the "way in" and found the cache, in a somewhat obscure location. I spotted it first, and Fargnot used his agile reach to retrieve the cache. We then emptied the cache contents on a table, and signed the log. The FTF prize was retrieved and netinator placed a 2TF prize in its place.
On the way back from the cache, with our pilot (flyingisis) at the helm, we navigated back toward the home base. Gary took us to his duck blind along the way, and we were able to enjoy getting our heads out through the shooting holes. We also enjoyed several of Gary's "stories" along the way.
Then upon arrival back at the dock, we enjoyed an outdoor fireside picnic in the backyard at Gary's next to the lake, as we watched the sunset (no we did not get to experience the beautiful sunrise over Reelfoot). Netinator, our chef, provided chicken salad sandwiches, which were awesome, as was the dessert, carrot cake. As soon as the pictures are available for viewing, I will try to get some posted here as well.
